Joomla : Templates and Site Design    Choosing Site Modules

Page 1

Let's get the site basically setup with minimal content. The first step is just to unpublish the modules that we don't want to display. This is a simple matter of looking at a list of modules and clicking on an "unpublish" icon.

First for this site we want to remove the Newsflash item from the top of the page.

Click on the image for page view.

(BTW, note that we are switching back and forth from the site to the admin area by using tabs in Firefox. The tab feature is very convenient when editing a Joomla site).

Here we are back in the modules listing. We are going to unpublish the Newsflash module by clicking on the indicated icon.

Click on the image for page view.

Returning to our home page, we can see that the Newsflash has disappeared.

Click on the image for page view.

Let's get rid of other things we don't need for now. Scrolling down, we see a second menu on the left and an RSS syndication link. This site is not going to have a blog format on the front page, so we'll remove that. We don't need that second menu either.

Click on the image for page view.

Which modules do we need to unpublish?

  1. The User menu is a menu that only appears when a registered site user has logged in. This is not the menu we want to remove.
  2. The Other menu is the second menu. We'll unpublish this
  3. The Syndicate module is the RSS module we want to remove.
Click on the image for page view.

Now the site has only the modules we're going to use in the first phase of setup.
